If you hate junk mail as much as I do, here is how to remove this shameful waste of our planet's resources. Green Dimes is a very effective organization, www.greendimes.com. It will take a few months but your junk mail will be considerably reduced. Other companies with good reports are www.junkbusters.com and www.exuberance.com.
Also, consider the following:
1. Major credit bureaus give out lists to credit card and insurance companies. Call 1-88-567-8688 and an automated system will take you off all major credit card bureaus for five years.
2. Send a postcard to the Direct Marketing Association and it will stop 75% of national mailings coming to your home: P.O. Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512
3. When buying a new appliance, be wary of those little manufacture's warranty cards that you are asked to fill out and send back. They are used to collect names for mailing lists. Realize your that your warranty is good anyway if you keep you receipt.
Facts about junk mail:
- Every year, 100 million trees are chopped down for junk mail sent to American homes.
- Paper makes up a third of all the waste that Americans send to the landfill.
- More than nine large trees worth of paper are sent to each U.S. home, and the response rate is less than 2 percent.
- Our local taxes are used to dispose of this junk mail that we didn't even want in the first place.
